How did you apply?

I applied by sending my CV and cover letter to the firm’s internship email address, internship@indiaip.com, approximately two to three months before my preferred internship period.

Shortly after submitting my application, I received an automated acknowledgement email. Candidates who are shortlisted generally receive a confirmation email within two to three weeks.

I would recommend applying well in advance, as the firm receives a large number of internship applications.

First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression

On the first day, all the interns were asked to wait in the reception area until everyone had arrived. At around 9:45 AM, we were welcomed by Stella Ma’am, Senior Executive at Lall & Sethi. She gave us a brief introduction to the firm before escorting us to the interns’ workspace.

As part of the onboarding process, the firm’s IT professionals helped set up our laptops and configure our devices to ensure we had access to the systems required for our work.

We were then briefed on the firm’s office timings, dress code, and general workplace etiquette. After the orientation, we were introduced to the associates and partners across the firm, which made the environment feel welcoming and approachable from the very beginning.

We were also informed about the workflow within the office. Whenever an assignment was available, we would receive a call on the office landline asking us to report to the concerned associate or partner.

At the same time, interns were encouraged to proactively approach associates and request work whenever they had completed their existing assignments. This ensured that interns remained engaged and had ample opportunities to learn throughout the internship.

Main Tasks

During the internship, I was entrusted with a variety of assignments that provided practical exposure to intellectual property law, particularly trademark practice. My work primarily included:

• Preparing case briefs.
• Conducting trademark searches and preparing trademark search reports.
• Preparing internet research reports.
• Assisting in the preparation of investigation reports.
• Drafting various legal reports and documents.

These assignments required strong legal research and analytical skills, attention to detail, and a sound understanding of trademark law and intellectual property practice.

Work Environment

The work culture at Lall & Sethi was one of the highlights of my internship. The associates were extremely friendly, supportive, and always willing to guide interns whenever required. The partners were approachable and encouraged questions, making it easier to learn from experienced professionals.

The administrative staff was equally cooperative and helpful. Overall, the firm maintains a collaborative and respectful work environment that enables interns to learn comfortably while feeling welcomed and supported.

Good Things about the Internship

The internship at Lall & Sethi provided me with meaningful practical exposure to intellectual property law, particularly trademark practice. The assignments were well structured and gave me an opportunity to apply legal concepts in real-world situations through research, drafting, and analysis.

One of the most valuable aspects of the internship was the work culture. The associates were extremely approachable, patient, and always willing to guide interns whenever required.

The partners also maintained an open-door approach and encouraged interns to ask questions and seek clarification, making the learning experience far more interactive.

Another positive aspect was that interns were entrusted with substantive work rather than merely administrative tasks.

Preparing trademark search reports, case briefs, investigation reports, and other legal documents helped me develop my legal research, drafting, and analytical skills while gaining a better understanding of how an intellectual property law firm functions.

Overall, the internship offered an excellent balance of learning, responsibility, and mentorship, making it a rewarding experience for anyone interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property law.

Bad Things about the Internship

I had an overwhelmingly positive experience. The only minor inconvenience was that the office Wi-Fi was occasionally slow, which sometimes affected online research. Other than that, I did not face any significant issues during the internship.

Monthly Stipend

The monthly stipend was Rs. 4000.

Details about the accommodation, commuting to the office

The office is conveniently located approximately five minutes from South Extension Metro Station, making daily commuting very convenient. I had my own accommodation during the internship. However, many of my co-interns stayed in nearby paying guest (PG) accommodations.

he most awaited part of the day was the last 30 minutes, as we were exhausted from the day’s work and excited to go out and relax with our co-interns.
