    About the Department of Law

    The Department of Law, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, established in 2005, has developed into a distinguished centre for legal education and research. The Department combines a rigorous curriculum with innovative teaching methodologies and emphasizes clinical legal education. Guided by an accomplished faculty, it fosters critical thinking, advocacy skills, and professional ethics.

    It currently offers B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M., and Ph.D. programmes with over 300 students. The Department actively promotes mooting, legal research, and scholarly engagement through its flagship National Moot Court Competition and participation in prestigious national competitions.

    About the Competition

    The 3rd North-Eastern Hill University National Moot Court Competition, 2026 aims to provide law students with a platform to engage in complex legal issues through legal research, memorial drafting, and oral advocacy. Building on the success of previous editions, the competition seeks to foster intellectual discourse, strengthen advocacy skills, and encourage engagement with evolving areas of law.

    Hosted by the Department of Law, NEHU, Shillong, the competition will bring together students from institutions across India, promoting academic exchange, professional development, and collaborative learning. It also seeks to cultivate excellence in legal reasoning, critical analysis, and courtroom advocacy while strengthening the culture of mooting.

    Eligibility & Team Composition

    • Open to bona fide students enrolled in:
      • 3-Year LL.B.
      • 5-Year LL.B.
      • LL.M.
        programmes recognized by the Bar Council of India.
    • Each University/Law School/College may nominate only one team.
    • Each team must consist of 2 or 3 members.

    Registration Details

    • Registration Opens: 28th July 2026
    • Registration Closes: 28th August 2026
    • Participants can register through the official registration link mentioned in the brochure.

    Registration Fee & Accommodation

    • Registration Fee: ₹1,500 per team
    • Complimentary accommodation and meals will be provided to all teams qualifying for the Physical Rounds.
    • Accommodation will be arranged at the University Guest House.

    • Winning Team – ₹50,000
    • Runner-Up Team – ₹25,000
    • Best Speaker – ₹11,000
    • Best Memorial – ₹11,000
    • Best Researcher – ₹8,000
