Supreme Court on ‘Arising Out of the Use of a Motor Vehicle’: Limits of MACT Jurisdiction

The Motor Vehicles Act is a beneficial legislation intended to compensate victims of motor accidents. However, not every death or injury that merely involves a motor vehicle automatically falls within the jurisdiction of the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). The Supreme Court clarified that a claimant must establish a causal connection between the use of the motor vehicle and the accident. The mere presence of a vehicle in the chain of events is insufficient.
