Ahmedabad: A total of 830 students received their degrees at the 14th convocation of Ahmedabad University on Tuesday evening. Out of the total, 494 were from the Amrut Mody School of Management, 162 from the School of Arts and Sciences, and 174 from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The university also conferred doctoral degrees on seven graduates. The top performers were awarded medals for academic and overall excellence.
Vinita Bali, former Britannia Industries MD and leader in the business and sustainability sector, was the chief guest at the event. “In your everyday life, you will face choices and dilemmas, both big and small. Maintain your integrity, sense of ethics, and values, and strive to do what is right — not just for ourselves but also for our planet and community. The planet is crying out to people like us for help because when all the trees are cut, the waters are polluted, the animals are gone, and the air is no longer fit to breathe, we will realise that we cannot eat money,” she said in her address.
Sanjay Lalbhai, chancellor of the university, said that like the ancient universities in Nalanda and Takshashila, Ahmedabad University aspires to be a ‘holistic and complete centre of education.’
“Question everything around you and make your education count, be grateful, don’t stop learning, fulfil the public good promise of education, and remember that your journey going forward is going to be unique to you,” said Prof Pankaj Chandra, vice-chancellor of the university, in his address.
