Mangaluru: As many as 64 primary health centres (PHCs), including 17 Namma Clinics, are set to receive ECG machines through a collaborative effort by the Cardiology at Doorsteps (CAD) Foundation Trust, the department of health and family welfare, and the zilla panchayat. The initiative is led by cardiologist Dr Padmanabha Kamath, who has worked to provide ECG machines to PHCs, Jan Aushadhi Kendras, community health centres, taluk hospitals, and gram panchayats across Karnataka since 2018.
The 64 ECG machines, sponsored by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) under its Arogya Samrakshan CSR initiative, aim to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural areas.
District health officer Dr Thimmaiah HR said that these ECG machines will benefit urban PHCs, Ayushman Arogya Mandir centres, and especially rural regions. They will enable the early diagnosis of cardiac issues and facilitate timely treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
The distribution of ECG machines will take place during a programme at the zilla panchayat office in Mangaluru on Wednesday.
