NEW DELHI: Four men impersonated police officers and conducted a fake raid at a building in Hari Nagar. During the raid, they thrashed some students after accusing them of running a fake call centre and duping people. The impostors threatened to implicate the students in a case and extorted over Rs 1.5 lakh from them. Four people were arrested in connection with the incident.
Police said the incident was reported on Dec 11, after they received a PCR call regarding a robbery at a building in Hari Nagar. Six students told cops that they resided on rent in Subhash Nagar. One of the students further stated that on Dec 10, around 9.40 pm, four people introduced themselves as police staff and levelled allegations against the complainant and his friends, accusing them of carrying out illegal activities in their rented flat.
In the name of checking the premises, they robbed them of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh at gunpoint.
During the investigation, three accused persons were identified and apprehended: Manpreet Singh alias Twinkle, Junaid, Wasid alias Monty Carle, and Kuldeep Singh alias Anshu. Additionally, based on information provided by the previously apprehended individuals, another accused person, Sarabjeet alias Prince, was apprehended from Tilak Nagar.
During interrogation, the accused persons admitted their involvement in the case. Out of the looted amount, Rs one lakh was recovered, along with a pistol, a live cartridge, and a car.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they received information about students engaging in some illegal activities in Subhash Nagar. They believed that by extorting money from them, the students would not report the incident to the police.
