300 borewells supplying drinking water in different areas

Ahmedabad: In a meeting of the water and sewerage committee held on Monday, discussions focused on constructing water tanks in various areas of the city and the supply of drinking water from borewells. The committee chairman, Dilip Bagaria, provided information about the supply of drinking water from borewells in different parts of the city. There are 319 borewells in the city, of which around 300 supply drinking water to various areas. Additionally, some areas use borewells to fill swimming pools.
In areas like Ghatlodia, Chandlodia, Jodhpur, Maktampura, Sarkhej, Thaltej, Vejalpur, Bodakdev, and Gota, which were incorporated into Ahmedabad city in 2007, water does not come with adequate pressure, so borewells supply drinking water to certain pockets. Similarly, in 2020, the Bopal-Ghuma area also started receiving drinking water from borewells. For instance, in the Jodhpur ward, drinking water is supplied from borewells to seven pockets in Bopal-Ghuma, where water tank construction is underway. Once these tanks are completed, the borewells will be shut down.
In Bopal-Ghuma, 11 other pockets also receive drinking water from borewells, with tanks being constructed by Auda, which will replace the borewells once completed. In Ghatlodia, there are five borewells; Chandlodia has 11; Thaltej has nine; Bodakdev has four; Gota has seven; Vejalpur has two; Maktampura has 10; and Sarkhej has 12 borewells supplying drinking water.
