Mumbai: The police have arrested a 26-year-old female passenger attempting to travel to Toronto to join a new job. Immigration officials halted her journey after discovering irregularities in her passport.
The Punjab resident, Satveer Kaur, was stopped from flying to Toronto after the officials noticed that she had tampered with the passport and deleted her arrival date in India.
The police said Kaur had erased her arrival date of Sept 28 from the document to prevent her parents from knowing when she had returned to India. They said she had gone home only after meeting a male friend and she did not want her parents to know about it.
“She said that her parents were unaware about her arrival on Sept 28. She did not want her parents to know about it as she had gone to meet her friend,” a police official said.
Kaur had returned after five years on completing her higher studies in Canada. She was going back to Canada to join a new job when she was stopped.
She was slapped with a case for cheating and forgery.
In Aug, authorities at the international airport had detained a 25-year-old fashion merchandising student who was preparing to fly to Singapore. Immigration officials found that she had removed four pages from her passport to hide evidence of a previous Thailand visit from her educational institution. Official said she wanted to conceal her travel records from college administrators as she had requested sick leave between Feb 11 to 14, claiming illness to not appear for examinations.
