About the Society For Technology & Law
The Society for Technology & Law (STL), NLUJAA, is a student-run academic body dedicated to exploring the intersection of law and emerging technologies. It promotes discourse on areas such as artificial intelligence, data protection, cybersecurity, and digital governance through initiatives like its blog Synthesis, newsletter Digital Docket, and upcoming journal.
About the Event
The 1st STL National Article Writing Competition, organised by the Society for Technology & Law (STL), NLUJAA, aims to encourage students to engage with contemporary legal issues arising from the rapid growth of technology. It aims to foster academic research, analytical thinking, and engagement with contemporary issues at the intersection of law and technology. It seeks to encourage students to explore evolving legal challenges arising from rapid technological advancements.
Eligibility
The competition is open to students currently enrolled in:
- Undergraduate law programmes
- Postgraduate law programmes
at any recognised university or institution in India.
Participation is allowed:
- Individually, or
- In teams of up to two authors (including cross-institution teams)
Theme
The competition focuses on law and technology, with the following indicative sub-themes:
- Artificial Intelligence and the Law
- Data Protection, Privacy, and Surveillance
- Platform Governance and Digital Intermediaries
- Intellectual Property in the Digital Ecosystem
- Technology and Constitutional Law
- Emerging Technologies and Legal Futures
- Digital Economy and Fintech Regulation
Submission Categories
- Single-authored submissions
- Co-authored submissions (maximum of two authors)
Prizes
- 1st Prize: ₹10,000
- 2nd Prize: ₹5,000
- 3rd Prize: ₹3,000
Additional Benefits:
- Top 10 entries will be published in an edited volume
- The top 3 winners will receive a physical copy of the book

- Word Limit: 1600–2000 words (excluding footnotes)
- Font (Main Text): Times New Roman, Size 12, Line Spacing 1.0, Justified
- Font (Footnotes): Times New Roman, Size 10
- Citation Style: OSCOLA (4th Edition)
Selection Guidelines
Each submission will be evaluated on:
- Originality and conceptual clarity (20 marks)
- Depth of research and legal analysis (20 marks)
- Clarity of expression and argumentation (20 marks)
- Relevance to theme (20 marks)
- Use of authorities and citation quality (20 marks)
Submission Guidelines
- Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
- Plagiarism must not exceed 15%
- Use of generative AI tools is strictly prohibited
- The organising committee retains discretion regarding acceptance and evaluation in cases of insubstantial deviations from the submission and formatting guidelines.
