16th Government Law College International Law Summit 2026

About Government Law College, Mumbai

Government Law College, Mumbai, was established in 1855. It stands as Asia’s oldest and one of India’s most distinguished institutions for legal education. For generations, it has served not only as a centre for legal academia but also as a platform for ideas, debate, and principled advocacy.

The corridors of the College stand as a testament to decades of intellectual exchange, deliberation, and dedication to the study of law. While nurturing exceptional minds, Government Law College, Mumbai, has consistently upheld its eminence in the legal sphere and across diverse domains of public, political, and professional life.

About SPIL, Mumbai

Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, founded in 2009 by the students of Government Law College, Mumbai, is a student-led organisation dedicated to advancing the study and discourse of International Law in an increasingly interconnected world.

Established with the aim of bridging the gap between theoretical legal education and practical engagement, SPIL fosters academic excellence, critical inquiry, and global collaboration among students and legal professionals.

Theme

International Trade Law forms the backbone of the global economic system, governing the rules that regulate cross-border trade. It constitutes a sophisticated legal framework that balances economic integration with state sovereignty, dispute resolution with diplomacy, and national interests with global cooperation.

In a rapidly evolving commercial landscape marked by technological advancement and shifting trade alliances, International Trade Law continues to shape how nations interact, negotiate, and compete on the world stage.

This theme has been chosen in recognition of the profound transformation currently underway within the global trading order. With reforms in the World Trade Organization’s dispute settlement system and the expansion of regional trade agreements, the structure of international commerce is being recalibrated.

By focusing on International Trade Law, the Summit seeks to encourage meaningful dialogue on how legal frameworks must adapt to contemporary challenges and redefine the future of global economic governance.
