Ludhiana: A 35-year-old woman was stabbed with scissors at her house in Prem Vihar, Tibba area on Friday. The assailant was a former employee of her husband, who was sacked two years ago after being caught stealing money at their flour mill. On hearing her screams, the woman’s 13-year-old son came to her rescue, but the accused attacked him too.
Dimple’s husband, Vaneet, owns a flour mill in Tibba area. Police lodged an FIR against the accused, Niranjan, a resident of Kartar Nagar, on Dimple’s statement.
ASI Baljeet Singh, investigating officer from Tibba police station, said that the woman was at home with her children and her husband was at work when Niranjan rang the doorbell. When she opened the door, Niranjan said that he had come from the flour mill and Vaneet had asked him to bring his mobile charger from the house. When Dimple turned around to get the mobile charger, the accused barged in and attacked her with scissors.
On hearing her cries, Dimple’s son, Danish, 13, rushed out and tried to stop the accused, but the accused attacked him too. The accused escaped from the spot and Vaneet rushed the victims to hospital. Dimple suffered serious injuries, said ASI Baljeet Singh. He added that Niranjan worked at Vaneet’s flour mill for years. About two years ago, Vaneet caught him stealing money and sacked him. According to the victim’s family, Niranjan never came to them over the past two years but suddenly showed up on Friday.
The officer said that it is yet to be ascertained if Niranjan took revenge on his employer for sacking him or if there was some other reason for the attack.
Police have lodged an FIR under Section 333 (house trespass with intent to cause harm, assault, or wrongful restraint) and 109 (attempt to murder) of BNS. Raids are on to arrest the accused.
