Witchdoctor killed mother, grandmother and uncle, too

Ahmedabad: Police investigation uncovered more skeletons from the witchdoctor Navalsinh Chavda‘s closet, who died in custody allegedly after confessing to killing 12 people, including his grandmother, mother and uncle.
“The accused, Navalsinh Chavda, killed his grandmother, Mangu Vania, in 2010 as she was suffering from age-related ailments, and he did not want to spend money on her. He offered her water spiked with poison, telling her it was a remedy, and killed her,” said a police officer.
The officer said that Chavda killed his mother, Saroj Chavda, with the same modus operandi around nine months ago when she fell ill and was quarrelling a lot over domestic issues. In Jan, his uncle, Sura Chavda, also fell ill.
He initially spent some money on him, but as his condition deteriorated, Chavda killed him by offering a drink spiked with poison, said the officer.
DCP, Zone-7, Shivam Verma, said that Chavda did not want to spend money on his ailing relatives, which is why he killed them. He was also fed up with domestic fights with his mother, which resulted in the killing. However, these cases were not probed by Surendranagar police.
Cops said that nobody in Chavda’s family raised any doubts as these deaths seemed natural. All of them died due to cardiac arrest, the family members had told police.
On the other hand, Chavda’s death in police custody also raised suspicion as he suddenly died despite not having any history of illness. Cops said that panel post-mortem examination on his body was done to determine the exact reason behind the death.
Chavda was held on Dec 1 following a raid by Sarkhej police at a secluded place in Mumatpura, where he was about to kill a man named Abhijeetsinh Rajput of Sanand. Chavda allegedly promised to increase his money fourfold by performing a ritual. During the ritual, he planned to offer a drink laced with poison to Rajput, with the intention of killing him.
However, Chavda’s partner in his taxi service business knew about it and informed cops about his next target, ultimately saving Rajput.
