Ahmedabad: The Kalupur police filed a case against 33-year-old Asif Patel after he escaped from custody by pushing police sub-inspector VC Parmar with his elbow and fled while wearing handcuffs. He was booked for resisting or obstructing lawful apprehension.
According to Shivprakash Sheshmani, an unarmed head constable at Khokhra police station, a case was registered on Nov 6 at Khokhra police station for house trespassing and theft.
Parmar led the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Asif and Atiyar Sheikh (36) on Tuesday. The investigation revealed that the duo delivered the stolen goods to an individual named Ali, who operated a shop on the fourth floor of Sahajanand Market in Kalupur.
At about 11 am on Wednesday, Asif was removed from the lockup for questioning. A decision was made to take him to Shahjanand Tower. “While the accused was being escorted to the fourth floor, he managed to escape by elbowing Parmar and jumping off the stairs with handcuffs still on,” said the police report.
Police reported that despite their search efforts, they were unable to locate Patel.
