Surat: A Surat woman filed a complaint of rape against a Delhi man who she met on Instagram a year ago. The woman alleged that the man lured her with promises of marriage to various hotels where he raped her. He also allegedly recorded intimate videos of her and used them to blackmail her. Bhestan police have booked the accused, Imran Kureshi, a garment trader, for rape.
According to details, the 32-year-old woman, originally from Bihar, lives in the Bhestan area with her six-year-old child. She married in 2015 and has been living separately from her husband for two years. She has filed a divorce petition.
In Oct 2023, she came into contact with Kureshi, who owns a shop called Neha Fashion in the Gandhinagar area of Delhi. After chatting with the victim over Instagram, Kureshi professed his love for her and promised to marry her once her divorce was finalized. Kureshi asked her for Rs 5 lakh for his business and the victim agreed to give him Rs 2 lakh.
On Jan 4, 2024, Kureshi came to Surat and booked a hotel in Vesu. He called the victim to the hotel to hand over the money, where he allegedly raped her. He also allegedly raped her the next day.
As the victim brought up marriage, Kureshi asked her to come to Delhi. The victim went to Delhi in April, where she was allegedly raped again in a hotel. She was also allegedly raped in hotels in Delhi in May and Oct. She said Kureshi avoided discussing marriage.
When the victim insisted on marriage, Kureshi told her he wanted money from her and was not interested in marriage. He threatened to circulate intimate videos of her. The victim then filed a complaint with Bhestan police. Kureshi has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 64 (2)(m), 318 (4), 351 (3), 77, 62 and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
Friend’s father molests nine-year-old
A nine-year-old girl was sexually harassed by a man in Bhestan. As the girl and her friend from a neighbouring society went to their tuition class together, she went to his house at around 5.30pm on Thursday. The accused, who is her friend’s father, was at home. He sent his son to another room and called the girl into his bedroom. He gave her Rs 10 for snacks, made her sit on the bed and started harassing her sexually. When the accused’s phone rang, she ran away from the house and went home crying. When she told her father what had happened, and he called the police and filed a complaint. Bhestan police have arrested the accused, Bharat Patel, after booking him for molestation under the BNS and Pocso.
