New Delhi: A total of 102 repeat offenders were externed in 2024, police said on Saturday. These criminals, involved in a range of offences, were a persistent threat to public safety in the district. The initiative comes as part of a strategy to rein in habitual offenders and curb crimes such as robbery, snatching, and organised crime in outer north Delhi.
Throughout the year, the Externment Cell, led by Additional DCP-I (Outer North) Bharat Reddy, launched a special drive to target criminals who were consistently involved in criminal activities. The team analysed the records of more than 100 individuals out on bail. After a thorough review of their criminal histories, legal documents, and past records, the team successfully completed the process to extern 102 criminals, all of whom were residents of the Outer North District.
“The 102 criminals externed in 2024 were involved in a wide range of criminal activities. Among them, 28 were robbers, 20 were snatchers, 18 were linked to organised crime, 10 were involved in theft and burglary cases, and 26 were engaged in other crimes,” a senior police officer said.
These offenders were primarily involved in street-level crimes, including the illicit sale of alcohol, snatching, and violent robberies. Notably, some of the externed criminals had extensive criminal records. “Out of the externed individuals, Afsar was involved in 40 cases, Shanti in 30 cases, Sheela in 25 cases, Farman alias Pummy in 23 cases, and Sheikh Safijul alias Keta in 25 cases,” said DCP (Outer North) Nidhin Valsan.
