Gandhinagar: In reply to a question in the ongoing winter session of Parliament on particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), the Union govt said more than 1.53 lakh people belong to PVTGs in Gujarat, spread over 20 districts of the state.
In a written question, MP Arun Bharti sought information on tribes classified in the PVTG category and the allocation of funds for the Union govt’s campaign for the welfare of such people.
In a written reply, Durgadas Uikey, Union minister of state for tribal affairs, said there are 75 groups of the most vulnerable sections of tribal communities that are classified as particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), spread across 18 states and one Union territory.
He added that the Union tribal affairs ministry has taken up an exercise to collect “habitation level” data through the PM Gati Shakti mobile application to estimate PVGT population figures. He added that according to the estimates, there are 1,53,516 persons in Gujarat in the PVTG category spread across 20 districts.
