The chinaman from India has been unfortunate in the past. Although he is backed by several outstanding bowling performances, he has been in and out of the side.

Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist spinner who specializes in chinaman bowling, a rare breed in cricket, has been left out of the team several times. The left-arm unorthodox spinner picked up four for six in the first ODI of the ongoing series versus West Indies.

Although Kuldeep has been giving outstanding performances consistently, he has been in and out of the team. In December last year, for instance, the chinaman picked up eight wickets in the first Test against Bangladesh and scored 40 runs. Although he hoped his place in the side would be sealed for the second Test, he was not picked.

Talking to the reporters after the match, the chinaman said, “Most of the time, when I don’t get to play it is because of the situation and combination. It is a normal thing now, I have been playing cricket for so many years, it has been more than six years now. These things are normal.”

“I don’t think much about taking wickets now. My focus is more on the process than what length I should be bowling,” he added.

The 28-year-old picked up 19 wickets in the last nine outings. The spinner has found his rhythm and looks in his prime form at the moment. Speaking to the reporters, he mentioned:

“Since the past one and half years, when I have returned from the injury, I have tried to bowl on those good lengths. I want to be more consistent with the length, and as far are wickets are concerned some days you will get the wicket, while on other’s you won’t.

The situation is also very important, I try my variations only when the opposition has lost four or five wickets quickly.”

The spinner credited his good bowling performances to captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“Seniors play a big role. When I brought the changes in my game, Virat bhai and Rohit bhai supported me a lot. They have shown confidence in me. They are backing me,” the chinaman added.
