Darshan Thoogudeepa Srinivas, a popular Kannada film actor, has been granted regular bail by the Karnataka High Court in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. Along with co-defendant Pavitra Gowda and others, he was previously detained during the investigation into this high-profile murder.
Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old fan of Darshan, was allegedly drawn to Bengaluru under false fronts and subsequently murdered, with his body discovered near a stormwater drain on June 9, 2024.
Reports indicated that Renukaswamy had sent inappropriate messages to Gowda, which reportedly enraged Darshan and led to the alleged murder. Following his arrest on June 11, Darshan faced charges including conspiracy and murder under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
After the court reserved its decision on his bail plea, it extended his temporary bail for medical reasons in October. On December 13, 2024, the Karnataka High Court officially granted him regular bail after reviewing arguments from both the prosecution and defense regarding the evidence and circumstances of the case. The situation continues to attract significant media attention due to its high-profile nature and the involvement of a well-known actor.
Darshan is a prominent Kannada film actor and gained fame with the film ‘Majestic’. He has starred in numerous successful films such as ‘Kariya’, ‘Daasa’, and ‘Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna’.
