Bob Dylan, the legendary singer-songwriter has been making the headlines for over six decades. His unique songwriting abilities have captured the attention of generations.

In this episode, we will explore how the magician singer pens his songs.

Dylan’s songs are magical and admired the world over because of their strong foundations and along with literature and counter-culture expressions.

An article published on Far Out mentions the following:

“An astonishing career set across six decades, the work of Dylan will likely be studied as texts after we are all long gone, and there’s a reason that his songs are given such admiration — they have incredibly strong foundations. Born not only out of Dylan’s mercurial mind, which at one point embodied the very notion of a generation of counter-culture expressionists but also out of a wealth of literature. When you put these two assets together, magic happens.”

While musicians and fans put him on a pedestal for his song writing abilities, Dylan believes his songs are easy to write. In an interview with Paul Zolo the maestro says, “as far as songwriting, any idiot could do it… Everybody writes a song just like everybody’s got that one great novel in them.”

According to Dylan anyone can write a song; however, only those stand out who have something to say or a point to make. He believes “unless someone’s gonna come along with a pure heart and has something to say. That’s a different story.”

Dylan’s believes that a great songwriter is born when a person is rejected from the society in some way. He gives the following advice to budding songwriters:

“Your life doesn’t have to be in turmoil to write a song like that but you need to be outside of it. That’s why a lot of people, I myself included, write songs when one form or another of society has rejected you. So that you can truly write about it from the outside. Someone who’s never been out there can only imagine it as anything, really.”

In the next episode, we will explore what makes Bob Dylan unique.
