Kejriwal’s legal team has vowed to continue fighting for his release, arguing that his arrest was politically motivated and an attempt to silence dissent. They have also raised concerns about the conditions of his detention in Tihar jail, citing overcrowding and lack of proper medical facilities. The case has sparked widespread debate and controversy, with many questioning the government’s use of the PMLA to target political opponents. Supporters of Kejriwal have organized protests and campaigns calling for his release, while critics argue that he must face the consequences of his alleged financial misconduct. As the legal battle continues, all eyes are on the court’s decision and the implications it may have on the upcoming elections and the future of the AAP leader.

In his petition, Kejriwal has contested the constitutional validity of specific sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act concerning arrest, interrogation, and bail. He has also brought up various concerns, such as whether a political party falls under the anti-money laundering legislation. The petition argued that the arbitrary procedures under PMLA were being exploited to create an uneven playing field in the upcoming general elections, favoring the ruling party at the Centre. A bench comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain will preside over the case. Previously, on April 9, the high court rejected Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the investigating agency, stating that the arrest was justified as he had left the agency with no choice but to arrest him after repeatedly ignoring summons. Meanwhile, the AAP leader’s judicial custody has been prolonged until April 23 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, and he is currently detained in Tihar jail.
