Ahmedabad railway station revamp likely to be finished by 2027: DRM

Ahmedabad: The redevelopment of Ahmedabad station at Kalupur is likely to be completed by 2027. The new station will not only have a six-lane elevated road connecting to the station but will also cater to the need of 3.12 lakh passenger footfall daily. At present, the station has a footfall of 1.2 lakh passengers per day.
The renovation, which is being undertaken at the project cost of Rs 2,383 crore, completed 100 days of construction activity. Divisional railway manager, Sudhir Kumar Sharma, said that currently, in phase 1, pillars for a two-storey basement parking, about 50 feet below ground, are being constructed. This facility will accommodate approximately 3,300 vehicles.
Additionally, work also commenced on a six-lane elevated road, 10 meters high, connecting the Kalupur and Sarangpur bridges. The DRM said that the station area will retain both the shaking minarets, and gardens along with other recreational facilities will be developed around these minarets to make the area an attraction for tourists and passengers.
Sharma said that the station development is progressing according to the planned schedule and is expected to be completed by 2027. The station will have a total of 12 platforms for train operations. A concourse area with facilities will be constructed above the tracks for passengers waiting for trains, where they can get information about their trains. This area will be facilitated with elevators, escalators, or stairs to reach the platforms.
Officials said that each platform will have four elevators and four escalators for passengers. The station will have a multimodal transport hub at the station, which will have direct connectivity to bullet trains, metro, BRTS, AMTS, and even private vehicles like taxis and rickshaws.
Also, the Sabarmati station, which is being developed at a cost of Rs 334 crore, will have seven platforms.
