NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police Special Cell has traced a bomb threat email sent to a Paschim Vihar school to a private school student. The student admitted to the act during questioning and was let off after being counselled.
His parents were warned to monitor his behaviour. Police confirmed that this incident is not linked to the series of group emails sent to multiple Delhi schools on Friday.
On Saturday morning, Delhi schools, including DPS RK Puram and Ryan International, received fresh bomb threat emails. The email, sent at 6.12 am, contained religious references and threatened to bomb school buildings over the weekend.
Schools promptly alerted Delhi Police, who deployed bomb squads and fire officials. No suspicious items were found.
The Special Cell revealed that on Friday, over 30 schools received similar hoax emails generated from outside the country. Schools were evacuated, and thorough checks were conducted. Despite no explosives being found, the threats have raised concerns among parents and staff about student safety.
Former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal criticized the recurring bomb threats, citing their potential psychological impact on children.
The Delhi high court has directed authorities to establish a comprehensive action plan and SOP for handling such emergencies within eight weeks. Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the emails, police said.
