Ahmedabad: The city traffic police, whose presence is seen at junctions, mostly issuing chalans, have failed to trace the accused in the hit-and-run case that killed a woman cop. Sharda Dabhi, 28, a constable with Khadia police, was struck by a speeding car near Sabarmati Riverfront (East) Road on Dec 5 afternoon. She was going to Narendra Modi cricket stadium in Motera for police bandobust.
Dabhi died on Dec 5, a day after the city traffic police launched an artificial intelligence-enabled camera to nab traffic offenders. However, the cops could not find a single clear CCTV footage to identify the car driver. More than that, the cops are still clueless about the vehicle involved in the accident.
Dabhi joined the police force around seven years ago and lived in a rented accommodation in the Oont Chawl area of Jamalpur. Surprisingly, police officers who rushed to the VVIP bandobust, have also so far failed to determine in which direction the accused moved.
“The city has thousands of CCTV cameras, which are used only to fine people who break traffic norms, like not wearing helmet, not wearing seat belt, or not following any petty traffic norms, but the gadgets often fail to detect serious crimes,” said a Jamalpur resident.
According to the city traffic police investigation, she was in police uniform and also wearing a helmet when the accident took place.
