Shah Rukh Khan calls himself a 'semi-orphan' as he compares his life with Mufasa

Shah Rukh Khan recently shared a heartfelt connection between his life journey and the character of Mufasa from Disney’s The Lion King. The King Khan of Bollywood, who lent his voice to Mufasa in the Hindi version of the film, spoke about the striking similarities between his life and that of the iconic character.
According to Shah Rukh, Mufasa’s story of being an outsider who rose to become the King of the Jungle resonates deeply with his own experiences.
In a promotional video for The Lion King, Shah Rukh opened up about losing his parents at a young age. Reflecting on his journey, he said, “If I may humbly say, ‘Meri kahaani bhi aisi hai’ (My story is also like this). Anyone who loses their parents is technically an orphan. I lost mine in my youth, so I consider myself a semi-orphan.”
He shared that, like Mufasa, he came from an outsider background, with no family connections in the industry. The ‘Jawan’ actor revealed that he is from Delhi and moved to Mumbai with little more than dreams and determination. Despite these challenges, he has achieved immense success in the film industry, positioning himself as a “king” in his own right. “And yet, here I am. It’s a story of a king, so yes, I’m a king (laughs),” he added.

Shah Rukh also spoke about how Mufasa’s character embodies values such as sacrifice, friendship, and loyalty. While dubbing for the film, the actor realized what a great character Mufasa is, and his journey is incredibly inspiring.
Shah Rukh Khan opened up about the profound impact of losing his parents, sharing heartfelt memories at the Global Freight Summit in Dubai. He revealed that his father passed away when he was just 14, and his mother followed a decade later, leaving him and his sister to face life alone. Despite their loss, Shah Rukh finds solace in the belief that his parents are still with him, feeling their presence and imagining them as stars in the sky. He expressed hope that they will be reunited one day.
