A three-day ice sculpture workshop was inaugurated today at Rakchham Gram Panchayat of Sangla Tehsil in Kinnaur district during which as many as five teams will be trained. The workshop is being organised under the joint aegis of the district administration of Kinnaur, the Department of Language and Culture and the Science Department. Participants include women’s groups, youth clubs, rural youth teams associated with the hotel industry, ITBP personnel and teams from the government college.
The workshop was inaugurated by the Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma, who said that during the workshop, a team of experts from Delhi would be providing training on ice sculpture making. “This expert team had previously represented India in the World Ice Sculpture Competition,” he said.
DC Sharma said this is the first time such a training workshop is being held in Kinnaur, with the goal of training local people in the art of making sculptures from ice.
He further said the workshop would not only create employment opportunities for the district’s residents but also promote tourism activities. “The workshop would serve as an excellent example of art, creativity and craftsmanship,” the DC added.
