Mumbai: The BMC has imposed a 15% water cut on Saturday and Sunday in areas under BMC jurisdiction, as well as areas under Thane and Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation, where water is supplied by BMC. This was due to a transformer at the Pise sub-station malfunctioning at around 1 am on Saturday, resulting in the shutting down of six out of the 20 pumps at BMC’s Pise pumping station. According to a BMC release, repair work is being undertaken on a war footing and will continue on Saturday and Sunday. Citizens have been asked to use water sparingly.
Earlier this year, several parts of Mumbai, mainly south Mumbai and the eastern suburbs, faced a 100% water cut for 24 hours following a fire at the BMC’s Pise Water Pumping Station. The fire broke out in a transformer at the pumping station. The transformer was shut down, which in turn affected the pumping at the station.
